The killing by an escaped zoo tiger in San Francisco is news.
But oppressive government in Washington, DC, is never news because it's ongoing.
Confucius addressed both the predatory killings by wild tigers and oppressive government in the following anecdote:
One day Confucius and his students were walking through the forest and came upon a woman weeping bitterly by an open grave. One student asked why she was crying, and she said, "First, my husband's father was killed here by a tiger. Then the tigers ate my husband. Now they have eaten my son." Confucius then asked the woman why she did not leave the forest, and she said, "Because there is no oppressive government here." Confucius then turned to his students and said, "Remember this: Oppressive government is more terrible than tigers."If Ron Paul is not elected president, many thousands more of America's brightest and best will leave the United States for less oppressive venues.
After all, if you can do your work on a computer, you can do it anywhere in the world.
And when you are outside the United States working for 11 months out of any given year, you pay no income taxes on your first $80,000 or so in earned income.
Plus, there are tax havens around the world where you can not only live free, but live like royalty, in many cases for less than $1,000 a month.
If you set up your own tax haven redoubt now -- even if only a brass plate in the sun or a vacation home outside the United States -- against the day you may want to escape from America, you would be better off than those who failed to have the wisdom and foresight to do so.
After all, it's better to be prepared and not need to be, than need to be and not be.
