Butler, this post makes me think of a funny story about The New Faith. A couple of weeks ago, I was out on the West Coast. I was in a Starbucks, and opened the Sunday paper. The cover story engulfing the entire front page was complete with the typical Enviro-headline, and the story featured enviro-loonies who practice nature-based faith. Included was a gigantic photo of a raggedy-looking, granola woman bending toward an old tree, looking up in reverence. I said aloud, Welcome to the Left Coast!
At dinner that night, with a bunch of West Coast friends in a small enviro-town, I was asked, “So how much of a culture shock is it coming here from Detroit?” I told them the story of the newspaper greeting, and replied that out there people worship bark, trees, and twigs, and where I come from they worship the UAW and General Motors! To put a positive spin on it, at least the GM worship keeps away the enviro-commies, collectivist mass transportation, and HOV lanes.
