Pill Nation

I say why not? Let people poison themselves with this garbage. If you believe the hysteria, we are all dying of clogged arteries. Dying is an epidemic, dammit! Big Pharma comes to the rescue with over-the-counter cholesterol meds. Now, every med should be available upon request, of course. If one has a mind full of mush and can't discern between beneficial or not beneficial, and wants to pop health-destroying cholesterol meds like candy, I say let 'em. But the FDA was appalled when, in its testing, it discovered that consumers who should not be on these drugs - for other medical reasons - would jump at the chance to purchase them were they available over the counter. Perhaps that has something to do with Big Pharma's endless propaganda that is backed by the monopoly and power of the FDA.

Thanks to Big Pharma's government-granted powers and corporatist-fascist attack on free markets and individual choice, we, as consumers in search of healthy living, are at the mercy of the FDA-Big Pharma partnership in terms of what meds are available to us, when they are available, and how we can get them. That is, unless you go to Mexico, where a farmacia clerk will gladly ignore your lack of a prescription for the pleasure of receiving your $10 bill. And he won't even care that the dollar is tanking.

"We're still failing to prevent this epidemic. It's time to take bolder action, to try new approaches," said Dr. Valentine Burroughs of New York's Mount Sinai Medical School, a Merck consultant.

"You should put this drug in the drinking water," said Dr. David Nash of Philadelphia's Thomas Jefferson Medical College.

Now, these last comments are truly telling. A Merck propagandist tells us that cholesterol problems are epidemic, and we must take action (sell more pills), and the agent of the AMA wants it in our drinking water. What will they do then? Make bottled water illegal to make sure that we all drink the government's special syrup?
