CIA CYA

The CIA destroyed videotapes of tort–er, “enhanced interrogation techniques”–being applied to prisoners rather than turn them over to the courts or the September 11 Commission. They say it was all on the up-and-up, of course. But as an anonymous “former intelligence official” admits, they were destroyed because “[p]eople know what happened, but to see it in living color would have far greater power.” Yeah, we can’t have our imperial subjects finding out what the empire is doing.
