Apparatchiks vs. the People

Writes Harold Smith: “I joined the crowd out in Arlington [for the VA GOP Straw Poll] to cast ballots (I was able to drag my g/f out as well and paid for her to vote :) ). It was amazing. Besides the speeches being possibly the most boring thing I have ever endured, the crowd told the story.

“Who were the Romney, Hunter, and Thompson supporters? Not to slight those who wear suits, but men in suits, straight laced as you would imagine traditional Republicans. No enthusiasm for their candidates, clapping when their candidate’s speech was over at most. To be fair, Thompson had a few vocal supporters.

“Who were the Ron Paul supporters? They were young (there was a 2yo baby there with a Ron Paul sticker on her) and old (a lady that must have been around 90, who could barely stand up, who stood up to cheer when Ron’s supporter gave his speech). They were dressed in normal everyday clothes. There were entire families there to vote for Ron and cheer him on.

“And amusingly enough. Giuliani had no one there to represent him and he beat out Romney who had a representative there [ex-Sen. George Allen].”
