I read a remarkable letter to the editor in Tuesday's USA Today. I found a copy of this online. A Ron DeLong from Mesa, AZ says forget about compaining about airline/airport totalitarianism and inconvenience. Ron, a perfect, little poster child for passivity and obedience to the rules of the State, says this:
The The biggest problem is most passengers are not frequent fliers. As a frequent flier, I treat the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel politely and know how to obey the airport rules.
People who do not fly frequently often are the ones who hold up the security lines because they have banned items in their carry-on luggage or they forget to take off their shoes for scanning. Maybe we have so many problems at airports because we live in a "fast food nation." Instant gratification has taught people that they can and should get whatever they want, whenever they want — no matter how absurd their request might be.
I don't know what more can be done to educate the flying public. I wish it were possible to put the repeat violators of TSA rules through "Airline Travel 101" class before they are issued tickets again.
This is the most amazing statement about people and expectations that I have read in some time. The masses, then, not being the "veteran" traveler that Ron is, have no idea on how to surrender their soul, let alone put their laptop in a separate tray or open their fly for the TSA 's magic wand.
Ron, first of all, you are a gutless loser. It is people like you who enable the State via your faithful acquiescence to any and all decrees declared by those who claim to have power over your life. You are a loser because you would rather tuck your head down like a weenie and knucle under to a bunch of licensed thugs rather than fight for your natural rights as a living human being. You are a spineless yellow-belly because you don't have the cojones to stand up like a man and live your life with dignity and oomph. But to blame people who are not "educated enough" in the ways of submission to a totalitarian State is utterly decrepit. And to claim that time preferences ("instant gratification") are to blame for the lack of ordered obedience is a rubber room moment all on its own. Instant gratification does not cause one to be ignorant of totalitarian rules, nor is instant gratification a cause of rebellion. On the contrary, it is people like Ron who want to keep moving, unencumbered, so they submit to the commands of their pitiable "superiors," and this, they believe, is the easy and quick way to get where you want to go without too much trouble. Shut up and bend over, and ye shall not have to deal with the consequences of being a suspected person of non-compliance.
Ron should be rolled up in a hammock, whacked with a ceramic birdbath, and tossed into the currents of the mighty Mississipi. People like Ron hate free people, and they especially hate a lust for life. I hate cretins like Ron.
