Politics, Nobel Prizes, and The Swedish Central Bank

Mike, you're of course right that politics taints the selection process behind these prizes. But as BK Marcus reminds us, despite the common associations and the similar name, the Nobel Prize in Economics has nothing to do with the organization that gives Nobel Prizes in physics, chemistry, literature, medicine and peace. No, the economics prize is more than sixty years more recent than the real Nobel prizes and is actually a program of the Swedish Central Bank.
