Free Speech and the NY Knicks

The enemies of the first amendment are many, and so are its defenders. But the latter are mighty quiet about the New York Knicks being fined $11 million for speech crimes.

I'm not defending the bad manners of Isiah Thomas, but if Anucha Browne Sanders didn't like being paid a high salary while being called a "ho" and a "bitch," she was free to leave. If this was a breach of contract, she was free to sue civilly in the local courts. But speech, even unpleasant or insulting speech, should never be a crime, let alone a federal case.

BTW, speaking of "ho's," Don Imus is coming back. The mornings haven't been the same since he was forced off TV by the Jacobin reaction to an impolite quip. And Don, bring Bernie with you. (Link via Drudge)
