On MSNBC's Morning Joe this morning, ex-congressman and Christian rightist Joe Scarborough was upset at a forthcoming CNN show on religious extremists, Islamic, Christian, and Jewish.
Christian extremists?! Why aside from a few abortion bombers, there's no such thing, he said, whereas Muslim extremists are almost the norm, in Britain, in Iraq, in Syria, in Saudi Arabia, in Iran, etc., and religious leaders preach war.
No American stops to think, thanks to such media mouthpieces, that in other parts of the world, the US government is seen as "Christian extremist" in its many attacks on Islamic countries: its invasions and occupations, its subversions and neo-colonialism, its endless meddlings and interventions.
Of course, the US government is not Christian in any sense, but to the Christian right, it is an agent of their War God. Muslims can be excused their confusion.
