Der Spiegel on Ron Paul

Writes Robert Grözinger: "After the TV GOP debate in May, all Der Spiegel had to say about Ron Paul was this: 'He plays the role of court jester'. Now take a look at their article about the Iowa straw poll.

"After the introduction, the first five (!) paragraphs are devoted to Paul and his followers. And he is mentioned again (twice) near the end (on the second page). None (!) of the other candidates get that exposure, not even Romney. The article does misrepresent Paul and his supporters somewhat, which is probably to be expected from a left-leaning paper. But the author does concede: '[Ron Paul] certainly has the nosiest, most committed, brightest, most energetic supporters.' The fact that freedom is the message is mentioned, but then skewed. However, my take on the whole article is that the reporter (the same who earlier this year wrote 'court jester') seems to have been deeply impressed by Ron Paul and his supporters, and by RP's straw poll result, and so had to grudgingly include a fraction of fairness in his description. Maybe next time he'll even represent the issues of the Ron Paul Revolution properly as well."
