James, it is great that Rod Dreher renounced his support for the war. However, it is a shame that he has not renounced his hostility to the free-market. Dreher should study some Austrian economics, then he might see that the short-term "consumerist" mentality he criticizes stems from the Federal Reserve's continued degradation of the currency, which makes savings and investments a losing proposition for most people, thus encouraging people to adopt a short-term time horizon. It is the state, not the market, that is the enemy of the values Dreher wishes to protect and promote.
