Has anyone read After the Reich: the Brutal History of the Allied Occupation, by Giles McDonogh, just out (in the US) from Basic Books?
Max Hastings in the London Sunday Times writes, "It makes grimmer reading than most war stories, because there is little redemptive courage or virtue. Here is a catalog of pillage, rape, starvation, inhumanity, and suffering on a titantic scale." This tale has "long been cloaked in silence," noted Nigel Jones in the Sunday Telegraph. "Giles McDonogh has told a very inconvenient truth."
