Some quotes from an article from the AP: "The 'VIPER' teams were sent to guard facilities in the nation’s capital and in Baltimore, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, TSA spokeswoman Ellen Howe said Tuesday.
“It’s not just because of the attacks in England,” Howe said. “Some were planned this week anyway, but I won’t deny the English car bombs affected the decision.” She added, though, that there is “no credible, specific threat for the Fourth.”
"VIPER" teams? Are we really living in a cheesy 80's action movie? Apparently, VIPER stands for "Visibile Intermodal Protection and Response." What does that even mean? Furthermore, if the web of video cameras across the United Kingdom couldn't prevent car bombings, do they really think that a few more officers with dogs and M-16s are going to "deter" a madman? I bet some officers will stand to get some nice overtime pay out of this, though.
