21,500 More Troops

I think that Bush wouldn't have much trouble raising another 21,500 troops to send to Iraq. The eager and angry insistence of so many Americans for the prosecution of this war ought to open up the possibility of their volunteering for such service. Perhaps the media warhawks could show the sincerity of their commitments by organizing their own battle units for which others could enlist, with the varied celebrities leading their charges into the bloodiest regions of the fighting. How about the Glenn Beck 101st Airhead Division, parachuting into an insurgency stronghold, with Glenn the first out of the C-119? The Ann Coulter Cavalry or O'Reilly's Rangers could then enter the battlefields to direct their venom against an opposition with real guns, rather than against some soft-spoken peace activist in the studio. What "terrorist" would stand a chance against such forces? The Laura Ingraham Infantry and the Limbaugh Lancers are additional corps who might not only engage in all the deadly fighting they are so anxious for others to endure, but could send back their self-righteous reports about the "successes" of their campaigns! Rush could be heard babbling his bromides as he lobs grenades at ill-defined targets! Nor should the neocon strategists be deprived of the opportunity to bring to fruition what all of their wicked scheming was supposed to accomplish. If this war is to be properly conducted, let us enlist those whose energies have been so forcefully behind the killing.

One opinion poll indicated that some 35% of Americans support Bush's plans to increase the number of troops in Iraq. If these moral slugs are sincere, and believe such an increase will accomplish such wonderful results, why does Mr. Bush not call upon them to volunteer for such service? As in the Spanish Civil War, such Americans could form the John McCain Brigade - again, with John at the forefront - to demonstrate the sincerity of their devotions to the war, expressions which are now confined to neighborhood barroom discourse. Like so many of the other soldiers who have been sent into this abattoir, these war-lovers would have the opportunity to receive posthumous "Purple Hearts" upon which their families could reflect with pride! What more could any patriotic American want?
