It is chilling that defense lawyer Lynne Stewart faces 30 years in prison. Clearly the reason is to warn off all attorneys who agressively defend enemies of the state. The feds want passive defense counsel of the old Soviet sort.
Stewart eays she is guilty of no crime, but the charges are ironic: that she passed on advice from her client to his supporters in Egypt to work to overthrow the dictatorship. If it were a US-hated rather than a US-created dictatorship, she'd get a prize.
