War-crazed John McCain had a moment of principle, if it was that, when he opposed Bush administration torture. At best, he was concerned only about the possible treatment of US soldiers, rather than the brutalizing of non-Americans, but it seemed sufficient. Now, discovering that his presidential campaign would be hurt by dissatisfaction among pro-torture Republican primary voters, he has caved, and lied about it. (Thanks to reddit for the link.)
