I'm asking because I sincerely want to know. Myself and other writers on this site have pointed out that the Constitution does not anywhere mention immigrants or immigration. By the standards of the 10th Amendment, this means that immigration and naturalization are a matter for state and local governments.
Yet, as far as I can tell, the anti-immigration bunch always resorts to federal laws, federal punishments, and federal police to punish, fine, and deport those who violate federal (and thus unconstitutional) immigration laws.
Have any of the alleged "strict constructionists" on the right who cry out against immigrants said anytihng on this? I certainly haven't heard it from any of the big names in the movement.
