I want to clarify my position, as I've been emailed about this. I don't know what Mel Gibson actually believes. I don't pretend to be able to read minds. And I agree that there's often a lot of hysteria over this, given that actually important events are happening, such as the war in the Middle East. My main point is that if the right is going to defend him, all because he's on their side in the ridiculous culture war, they should stop playing the anti-Semite card in their attempts to drown out critiques of US foreign policy and Israeli policy. See, for example, Larry Elder's article where he asks, "What about liberal anti-Semitism"? I for one don't think that criticizing US foreign policy in respect to Israel's influence is more worthy of condemnation than what Mel said.
These days, it seems to me that the right plays the race card and the PC card more than the left.
