Give it back to Mexico?

I see that today at VDARE, the lead article complains about some Lefty professor's suggestion that the American southwest (specifically Texas) be given "back to Mexico." That's treason, the author (Athena Kerry) says. Well, you know a Conservative is always out of ideas when the treason card comes out, but she's also displaying the usual lack of paleocon imagination.

Of course Texas should not be given to the Republic of Mexico. It should be given to the Republic of Texas. The author can't even conceive of this idea, of course, because that would be "treason." After writing about how great secession from Mexico was (which it was) she can't even conceive that Texas could revert back to its independent (and vastly better) status.

I know this isn't a likely scenario, but the fact that it's beyond the realm of possibility for these people, and the assumption that territorial acquisition for the American government is a good thing is rather revealing of the Conservative preference for nationalism and power at the expense of liberty.
