I received an email today from the American Conservative Union quoting some Lefty pro-immigration activists saying things such as:
"Go back to Boston! Go back to Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future. You are old and tired. Go on. We have beaten you. Leave like beaten rats. You old white people. It is your duty to die… Through love of having children, we are going to take over.”
The ACU is shocked -shocked!- that anyone would say such a thing. Of course, you could simply change a few words around and you'd simply get something that could have been uttered by most any 19th century Anglo American - telling Mexicans to get lost, of course. The losers then were the Hispanics. Now, the Anglos are the losers. And they're losing big time. So, the comments above, while hateful, could perhaps best be classified as merely an accurate prediction of the future.
I know the thought of a Hispanic majority, which will surely be a solid majority throughout the American Western states by the end of the century, drives many conservatives (especially of the paleo variety) into apoplexy, but the fact is the Anglos simply don't have ht resources (namely, the population) to win. Even if the borders were closed, it would still be just a matter of time. The Hispanic population is simply more young and fertile than the quickly aging and childless Anglo one. Plus, history has shown that an old, sterile population bordered by a young, fertile population, will eventually be overwhelmed regardless of what the law books say.
Besides, why do we even approch the issus as if there were some historical mandate that the American Southwest be controlled by Anglos? It was spanish controlled for 300 years before the Anglos took it at the point of a gun. Alas, the lands could have become free republics after secession from Mexico, but as usual, American love of nationalism and militarism won the day, and the new lands were added to the growing Leviathan. To be sure, if the avarice of politicians had not ruled the day, the United States would not have nearly the immigraiton problem it has today. It would be the Republic of California's problem, assuming that it would be seen as a problem at all.
The fact that California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah are even part of the United States is just an accident of history, and because once upon a time, Anglo Americans were much more fertile than the Mexicans. There was no holding back the population growth. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the rulers of New Spain discussed with despair how to assimilate the Anglos and control the immigration of Anglos into Spanish lands. They failed. Why? Because there were too many Anglos settlers and too few Hispanic settlers.
The Americans, during the war with Mexico incidentally, considered annexing all of Mexico, but that would have involved mixing pure Anglo blood with inferior Mexican blood as mentioned by a South Carolinian writing to John C. Calhoun (Who I'm sure was in agreement):
"However we may want the lands, we surely do not need the incorporation with us of such a people of inferior mixture as the Mexican." "I think we will have to thrash the Mexicans into civilization and Anglo Saxon principles." --Letters to John Calhoun, 1847
So now, after being dominated by Anglo culture for a mere 150 years, the Hispanics will soon come up with the numbers they've long needed to control the Southwest, and return it back to its much older Hispanic path. While the Hispanics are having children, the Anglos are too busy watching Tivo with their three golden retreivers to bother with sustaining their own civilization.
And overall, the day of Anglo civilization is moving quickly to the grave. They'll be replaced in Northern Europe, and they'll be replaced in North America. The Anglos here should at least be happy they're being outnumbered by Christians and not by Muslims interested in Sharia law. Soon, Anglo-Saxon civilization will be but a footnote in history.
There is no more compelling illustration than this that Anglo civilization isn't nearly as superior as many have long claimed it was. If it were, it wouldn't be frantically digging its own grave. If Anglo civilization possessed any trace of its 19th century self instead of its current old, decadent, and lazy version, Anglos would be filling the Americas with its progeny, just as Thomas Jefferson predicted that it one day would.
It was a good run, but the game is up. But, as Fred Reed showed today with his usual brilliance - Don't blame Mexico.
