At least 28% of the New York Times's shareholders have withheld their votes for directors, to protest the lousy management of the country's most important newspaper. Publisher Arthur "Pinch" Sulzberger, not exactly the man his father "Punch" was, has also had trouble disguising the Times's role as a shill for the state. Reporter Judith Miller helped lie us into war, for example. Reporter James Risen helped suppress his own story on illegal wiretapping, to make sure Bush won in 2004.
Newspapers as a species are in deep trouble, and Pinch fiddles as the Times burns. And note the arrogant and hypocritical Times management's No Comment on the whole deal.
