The Dumbest Politicians in America? (Or Just the Most Corrupt?)

I defy any LRC reader to argue against the proposition that Maryland has the dumbest politicians in America. Recently, the local media have been in an uproar over the fact that the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company is about to raise its prices for the first time in six years. The reason why there's been no price increase for six years is that the Maryland legislature's Orwellian, misnamed "deregulation" law REGULATED the price of electricity with price controls. Deregulation my eye.

Naturally, no competing power companies entered the Maryland market in the past six years. Indeed, it would border on criminal negligence for a corporate CEO to enter a market in which the price of his product would be centrally planned by a cabal of corrupt knuckleheads like the Maryland state assembly.

The biggest protest over BG&E's proposed price increase has come from these same turkeys, arguing: "But there's not been any new competition in the last six years! Deregulation has failed!"

THEY created the condition guaranteeing that no competition would emerge, then they complain about it as though they had nothing to do with it. If they aren't the dumbest politicians in America, then they're certainly the most devious and corrupt.
