“Democracy is the belief that the common man knows what he wants and deserves to get it good and hard.” – H.L. Mencken.
The Iraqis are getting another deadly dose of “democracy” shoved down their throats in the form of another American air assault. “Faux News” brings another retired general on to discuss the propriety of this attack, the anchor all the while reciting the mantra about “terrorists” being the target of the assault. Let me see if I recall the sequence: Iraq had to be attacked because it had “weapons of mass destruction” that it planned to use on America. (No, that didn’t work out.) Oh, Saddam Hussein had ties to Al Qaeda. (Again, a dry hole.) Saddam Hussein was a participant in the 9/11 attacks. (No evidence for that, either.) We must invade Iraq in order to remove Hussein from power.(Well, that’s been accomplished, so why do we remain?) Ahhhh, it is to bring “freedom” and “democracy” to a beleaguered people! What if innocent men, women, and children are blown to pieces in the process? Are we going to allow sympathy for disemboweled or decapitated children to stand in the way of some noble principle?
As well-armed American brutes begin storming homes and breaking down doors, I wonder who the Iraqi people will regard as the “terrorists.”
