The Slate article about automatic toilets that was linked to on Thursday's LRC reminded me of another crappy invention: the automatic light. When I am giving a test and therefore no one is moving in the room the light will go out every 15 minutes and plunge the room into total darkness. No amount of moving my hands will bring it back on. I have to stand up and move around to get the lights on so my students can get back to work on their test. There is no way to get around the system and make the light stay on, at least not at my college. This too must die.
