Re: Moses Complex

"freed from what? free for what?"

From the Christian standpoint, Israel was freed in prophecy for the eventual coming of the Messiah. In Christian salvation history, the New Testament is prophesized by the Old, and the Old Testament is revealed in the New. As such, Moses is considered a type of Christ and the Exodus a type of the eventual liberation for all humanity from the tyrannical chains of sin (original, actual). The independent prophetic connections are intense, from the parallel flights to and from Egypt, to the salvation of manna, to the works of miracles.

In complete context, I believe the Christian story of Exodus has the most universal libertarian feel to it. It does not change the original text and it points to an ultimate liberation.

The problem with the Muslim texts, is that they were edited to fit the cause. For example God's covenant with Abraham is to be exclusively with Isaac and not Ishmael (father of the later Muslims). Muhammed changed this to include Ishmael and it is Ishmael who was almost sacrificed, but not Isaac (another type of Christ). The exclusiveness of Israel is not for their sake alone, but for the sake of all humanity. What makes them exclusively chosen by God is the promise to bring the Messiah, the Christ, the ultimate Liberator to all mankind.
