Ryan, I can't stand college football either (can't help but love college basketball though). I like to think of college football as the Morrill Act's intended replacement of the state militias. In order to keep those rowdy rebs in line, the feds will give the states land grant universities so that their unyielding and tenacious youths misdirect any kind of righteous angst to playing football in the SEC, ACC, etc. That way the feds won't have to worry about any Volunteers, Aggies, Seminoles, Cavaliers, Buldogs, Gamecocks, Tar Heels, Wolverines, Hoosiers, or Buckeyes causing any sort of real trouble.
What irks me most about college football, is that there are years when you don't know who the national champion really is or there are co-champions. It seems to be the only sport without a really objective victor at the end of the season. One and two are playing each other this year, but come on why don't they give three and four a chance?
