I hate college football

Few things are more annoying than the pretense that College football has anything at all to do with actual academics. I liked this recent article on Slate that discusses those ads for colleges that air during bowl games - "Those Weird College Ads:
If you like our football team, you'll love our chem labs full of Asian students."
So true.

At my alma mater, the University of Colorado, most football players were communications or journalism majors. In case you don't know, those two majors are famous for featuring classes that a high-functioning chimpanzee could pass. Academics is mostly an afterthought for the coaches.

At CU, athletics are a particularly sore spot since the whole school was recently dragged through the mud because it seemed pretty clear to most that recruiting methods at the school are repugnant in every way. The school's response? Blame the news media and say that "everybody's doing it."
