Butler has a good point below: those of us who challenge the current regime of political correctness in academe ARE dangerous to the collectivists and right-wing imperialists who have constructed the regime. I was greatly amused by a comment made by the resident "civil war historian" at Hampden-Sydney College last year when, after my talk on Lincoln, he stood up and proclaimed, "This kind of history is dangerous!" I responded with Butler's point by saying yes, it is dangerous to men like this who have spent their careers spreading lies and propaganda to captured audiences of 19-year-olds. Presenting previously-ignored historical truths to this man's students revealed him as the fraud that he is, which is why his only reaction was hysteria and name calling. I've found this to be generally true of ALL so-called "Lincoln scholars," without exception.
