Norm, I completely agree with you if these nine members of the congregation were supporting Kerry et al.. without qualms about the latter's position on abortion. I see no evidence that was the case.
This report is more revealing and suggests that a pretty contemptible show trial took place. Even if these nine supported Kerry because of his abortion stance (and again I don't see evidence of that--it looks like it was a conservative church to begin with and flaming abortion fans don't usually end up in such churches), then that was opportunity for dialogue to open up.
I shouldn't be so harsh on them (and certainly don't believe all are "boobs"--that was just a little alliterative humor in my title), but having been in the Baptist church for years and having left one not too long ago out of complete disgust (never mind teaching in one of their universities), I can tell you from ample experience that there is some downright dangerous teachings being propagated, and nuking the Middle East to bring on the Rapture is just the beginning.
