"School Busing" is a classic example of what Tom Sowell wrote about in his book, "The visions of the Anointed." Leftists grab on to a policy, watch it fail and cause even more problems for several generations, and then conclude that what the world needs is more of the same. The reason for this, says Sowell, is that to the Leftist what matters most is being able to strut around pretending to be "holier-than-thou." To proclaim that he "cares" more than you do bout "the poor," etc. He doesn't care at all if his policies actually harm the poor; the ultimate objective is to make HIMSELF feel morally superior.
We see this today in nearly every college and university in America, where "diversity" has become the NUMBER ONE OBJECTIVE IN HIGHER EDUCATION in the eyes of nearly every university bureaucrat. Of course, "diversity" is nothing but code for hiring and admission quotas that benefit the Left's mascots, especially "people of color" and "gay, bisexual and the transgendered." Even at the Catholic College where I teach, I am constantly being implored to "celebrate" the transgendered, bisexual, etc., etc. Not to merely be tolerant and have a live-and-let-live attidude, but to "celebrate" such lifestyles.
The "theory" behind this is exactly the same as the theory behind school busing: Black kids will supposedly learn more if there's a white kid sitting next to them.
This of course is an inherently collectivist and racist idea, as well as an extraordinarily stupid one. School busing has proven this beyond all doubt. Therefore, we need much more of it at the university level, or so we are told.
