Regarding Dubya's speech at the New Lincoln shrine in Springfield, Illinois, I have written several articles on LRC quoting Bush-ists as invoking Lincoln's ideology to "jutify" perpetual warfare for abstract ideas, such as "democracy in the Middle East." This is pure Jacobinism, plain and simple. Lincoln's war was America's Jacobin revolution, which was a betrayal of the principles of the first American revolution. The neocons are also extraordinarily bold liars, preaching just the opposite (this is the object of Harry Jaffa's life's work).
An Associated Press reporter interviewed me recently about the new Lincoln shrine. He told me that there were criticisms of Abe there, but they are all confined to a single, small room. Upon entering, there is an audio of several different voices reading off information about illegal suspension of habeas corpus, waging war without consent of congress, mass imprisonment of political dissenters, shutting down of oppositon newspapers, waging war on civilians, etc., but it is all a babble, with several different voices talking over one another. In other words, it is a complete farce, as is fitting for a temple constructed by the Lincoln Cult in honor of their god.
