Stephan, good points, all of them. I guess it's unfair for me to compare my leftie anarcho friends with Michael Savage.
However, many conservatives are also bad on commercial speech and free association, just as many liberals are bad on drug laws and war. I used to think liberals were far worse on federalism, but I'm starting to question that. I know a lot of lefties who think California should set its own policies as should Texas and Alabama. Will this change when Hillary comes to power? Maybe.
When you get down to it, the whole spectrum is nonsensical, and there are more cultural and aesthetic differences than ones of principle. Maybe what I would say is that liberals are better when Republicans are in power, and conservatives are better when Democrats are in power. And you're right on with the Woody Allen quote. For what it's worth, Stephan, I think liberals are better on intellectual property. But I live in a strange place and time, where the best of the left is there, and the worst of the left is there but less frightening because they're not in power.
