From Joseph Stromberg

"The new book by James Webb, Born Fighting: How the Scots-Irish Shaped America, is interesting and informative, but the author seems altogether complacent about the rather inattentive combativeness of the Scots-Irish, which leads them to embrace every stupid war they are offered. Perhaps combativeness tempered by reason is something they ('we' - since I'm implicated) ought to cultivate.

"On the other hand, or maybe the same one, I am getting awfully sick of Walter Russell Mead - the Michael Moore of the CFR (at least visually) - going on about 'Jacksonians,' right though he may be. He seems to be saying that a lot of the voters (Scots-Irish) LOVE war. What follows from this? War is good? You can't deny the voters a war they've been suckered into? And because they LOVE war, no matter the reason for it?"
