The sputtering vitriol of the Warmongers against the Spaniards would be funny if it weren't so ugly. They like democracy - as a justification for endless war and intervention - it's just the decisions of the voters they can't stand. A day after the results of the Spanish vote, the Prez was working hard to rally his (non-fighting, political) troops: "Terrorists will kill innocent life in order to try to get the world to cower," Bush [said]. "They'll kill innocent people to try to shake our will. That's what they want to do. And they'll never shake the will of the United States." [source]
Pity the poor Bushites. "Never" and democracy are not two concepts that go together, as the Spaniards just demonstrated. For a man who must stand for election and who is limited to a combined term of 8 years to pledge "never" is to confess he understands nothing of the reality of his position and to make a fool of himself. Are terrorists supposed to be impressed by this?
When is the War Party going to face facts? Logically, in order to carry out a permanent War on Terrorism, it's going to have to suspend elections. Come on, if people can be cowed by terrorism to vote against the War on Terrorism, are they really fit to vote? And if government exists to protect the people from themselves, why shouldn't this also apply to voting? Isn't it necessary to destroy democracy in order to save it?
