The Stalinist Prosecution of Martha Stewart

Posted by Thomas DiLorenzo at February 15, 2004 12:57 PM

Martha Stewart is being prosecuted for proclaiming her innocence to federal investigators. That's the charge, not "insider trading." She is accused of lying to the feds by saying, in effect, "no, you're wrong, I didn't do anything illegal."

It's even worse. Thankfully, last Friday the judge threw out another charge: That by proclaiming her innocence, Martha caused an increase in confidence in the company stock that is of question (ImClone), which drove up its price. The higher price supposedly harmed potential buyers, which these Stalinist prosecutors argued was a felony.

There is a dire need to put pictures of these Stalinist prosecutors on the covers of magazines (or at least on LRC) along with articles explaining to the world that they are enemies of the rule of law -- and a bunch of conscienceless creeps as well.
