"To the Four Seasons, for Lord Black's party to celebrate the publication of his magnificent opus, 'Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Champion of Freedom,'" writes Taki today.

Someday, "Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Champion of Oligopoly,' followed by volume 2, "Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Champion of Carnage." And volume 3, "Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Worse Than Truman."

We read: "Few people re-read books - and if they do the books inevitably disappoint."

Nonsense. If the book is good, it doesn't disappoint. I re-read MAN, ECONOMY, & STATE this summer, highlighter in hand. It is still terrific. (My regret: I found out about your new edition only after I read the paperback.)

I re-read Van Creveld's RISE & DECLINE OF THE STATE almost as soon as I finished it.

I think the great books are better the second time around. You pick up goodies that you missed. The main points get more deeply driven into your mind. In fact, the mark of a great book is that it holds up the second time around.
