The Potomac Electric Power Company (aka PEPCO), which supplies electricity to Washington, DC and its Maryland suburbs, has been criticized for not restoring electric power quickly after tropical storm Isabel hit the area. So what does it do? It hires former FEMA Director James Lee Witt, porkmeister for Bill Clinton, to tell it how to restore power more quickly. PEPCO is going to pay Witt Associates between $1-3 million for advice on how to do this. PEPCO's customers ought to be irate, as Witt is not going to tell the company anything that they couldn't figure out for themselves with about 15 minutes of thinking.
Witt was famous for "turning FEMA around," giving it a good reputation. That was all done by shoveling out tons of taxpayers' money, all of which bought votes for Clinton in various areas subject to disasters. If you really want some insight about Witt and his time at FEMA, read Jim Bovard's book "Feeling Your Pain," which devotes a full chapter to FEMA's financial malfeasance.
