Let’s face it: your body can be toned through regular exercise, but if you want to keep a youthful visage, it’s Botox or surgery, right?
Wrong, says Danielle Collins, the Face Yoga expert, who has created a 20-minute programme to be carried out daily, six times a week. Danielle has drawn together massage, acupressure, yoga and facial exercises to give a “safe anti-ageing results – a natural face lift”.
She believes that anyone can benefit from fewer lines and wrinkles, a firmer jaw line, improved skin tone, plus reduced headaches and eye strain, easing of tension, and, best of all, a healthy glow.
“It’s 18 simple techniques for the face,” explains Danielle. Those who fancy seeing Face Yoga in action can attend a class run by Julia Anastasiou or John Bruno, “super trainers” of The Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method, on March 23 and 24, at the Vitality Show in London.
“Just as your body needs regular exercise to stay toned and firm, the 57 muscles in the face and neck also need to be exercised,” explains Danielle. “As they become stronger they are lifted and firmed and the skin attached to the muscles is tautened, reducing lines and wrinkles.” The massage moves increase circulation, lymph flow and remove toxins, improving skin tone, reducing puffiness and dark circles.
The routine also involves gentle acupressure – an age-old technique of pressing on points on the face to increase the flow of energy, or what yogis call prana. And simply learning to relax tension in the face will help to reduce and prevent deep lines and wrinkles caused by stress, squinting or grimacing.
Just taking time to relax is a good thing. “What happens on the inside, radiates on the outside,” she explains.
