Tuning Out the Mainstream News

I don't watch much television news anymore. At times, this can limit my knowledge on any given subject.

My desire to stay acutely informed isn't what it used to be. I'm also getting tired of the lies – America is the greatest nation on the planet, the economy is strong, government will be successful in creating more jobs, we need to be at war in the Middle East to keep us safe… not to mention news of the latest celebrity in trouble.

Let's face it:

  1. America is not the greatest nation on earth. We are a great nation, and so are many other nations.
  2. Our economy is not strong – it is insolvent. Manipulation and illusion are alive and well in America.
  3. The Unites States Government will not create jobs. The aforementioned government is the organization that allowed U.S. companies to outsource the jobs overseas for the past seven decades.
  4. War does not make us safe. War on other peoples' soil pisses them off at us.

Today's news is not investigative reporting; nor does investigative reporting make the news. Today's mainstream news is the American People being told what they should think. At the bottom of the news food chain is Fox News. Fox is the distraction that has succeeded in getting the “have nots” to support policies that benefit the rich, the Christian Right to believe in the need to bomb others, and patriots to ignore our Constitution.

Similarly CNBC and Fox Business are Wall Street's networks. They tell is what big business wants us to believe. The talking heads on these networks tell us what lies ahead…. though no human really knows. These reporters pretend to be fortune tellers, yet not one of them knows what's going to happen in the very next moment. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, u201CThe beauty of the future is that it only comes one day at a time. The humans on television business shows profess otherwise.

I do my best to search the web for my news. Some sites I stop at regularly are to the right, some to the left, some Libertarian, some progressive… a nice cross section of our American Society. I don't agree with all the politics of any one site. However, over time I have found these sources to represent a more truthful version of what’s really happening in America.
